Customer Spotlight – Diane and John from Chicago, IL

Diane and John from Chicago were kind enough to send us pictures of their Estates TV lift cabinet in their beautiful windy city home.  The Estates TV lift cabinet fits beautifully into the alcove adjacent to their fireplace.  The traditional look and African mahogany stain of the Estates blends in nicely with the character of their home.

“We absolutely love our lift cabinet.  Our friends are all amazed at how it works.  It's fun to put on demonstrations of the mechanism. It's our best party trick!  And the case is beautiful.  People have asked me if it is an antique, as it has such a distinctive look...not at all cookie-cutter. We are thrilled with it. The price was good and it came in less than a week.” – John and Diane.

If you have pictures of your TV lift cabinet that you would like to share with us, please send to info@importadvantage.com.  We would like to hear from you and see how you have incorporated your TV lift cabinet into your home décor.  Thank you, John and Diane for your glowing review and beautiful home pictures.  We loved them!

Is Netflix taking over cable TV?

Reports coming from Netflix detailing their first quarter earnings show some impressive numbers. Overall, 7% of Americans subscribe to Netflix – outnumbering subscribers for the nation’s largest cable provider, Comcast. As alarming as these numbers may be to cable providers and networks, Netflix has been constantly increasing in popularity as a way for consumers to enjoy movies and television shows from their TV lift cabinets.

Aside from streaming movies, Netflix has recently signed on for an original TV series starring Kevin Spacey and the company has several deals in the works that allow them to show past season episodes of TV shows. With online TV and streaming media becoming so popular, cable networks fear that Netflix may be encroaching on their territory. Networks like HBO and Showtime aren’t sold on the benefits of Netflix. Netflix executives argue that by showing their past season episodes, they are essentially marketing the new season for the networks. Regardless of some networks holding out on Netflix, the selection and convenience offers endless possibilities for consumers.

Whether Netflix continues to experience this astounding growth remains to be seen. What do you think of Netflix? Do you subscribe? Would you sooner stream movies and television shows as opposed to renting copies from the nearest Redbox or rental retail store?

Spring 2011 Trend: Beach Inspired Decor

Since the wrap-up of the High Point Furniture Market, I have been reading many reviews that highlight the trend of nautical/beach inspired décor. One key element when trying to achieve this look is white washed furniture. White furniture keeps the room light and airy. Cool colors like blue and sea foam green are perfect accents. Also, don’t be afraid of bold patterns! Interior designers aren’t shying away from ocean inspired motifs. Anchors, marine life, and boat patterns are covering everything from throw pillows to the upholstery of sofas and ottomans.

Incorporating a TV lift cabinet into beach inspired décor is easier than you might think. ImportAdvantage offers several TV lift cabinet designs that would be a perfect fit. My personal favorite is the Coastal Creations but Carousel, Crystal Pointe, Moderna and Prism are all available with a white finish. With such a large selection, it’s easy to find a TV lift cabinet that incorporates your personal style into a beach inspired room.

Consumers are not sold on 3D TV

Recently, I was browsing for the latest technology news and I stumbled across an article that exactly reflected my feelings on 3D TV.  Personally, I think the technology is exciting however I’m not convinced that it is something I’d want for my TV lift cabinet.  Between the price and the extra gadgets (namely, the glasses), it just doesn’t appeal to me. I’m perfectly happy with my HD TV. Apparently, I am not alone.

The article I’m referring to is on CNET.com and it discusses why people do not want 3D TV. The manufacturers say CNET hasn’t done enough to convince consumers that this is something they should have.  However according to CNET, the cost of 3D TVs and having to wear the dreaded glasses is proving to be an unfavorable combination for consumers.

When I watch TV, I want to collapse on the couch, turn on the TV and relax. I might have my laptop on my lap while I simultaneously browse the web. I don’t want to have to put on my 3D glasses to watch my favorite shows. I also like the freedom of going back and forth between my computer and TV. The glasses would complicate my ability to multi-task. Prime example - I often watch TV from my kitchen while cooking or doing dishes and the glasses would interfere. The same concerns I have are shared by many consumers, as is evident in the CNET article.

Do you already have a 3D TV?  If so, I would like to hear from you!  I’m curious to hear what current 3D TV owners think and if they’re happy with their decision to move on from HD TV.  Who knows, I could be persuaded…

Hi everyone!  Recently we have received quite a few inquiries from our friendly neighbors up north asking us the following questions:

1.)    Do you ship to Canada?

2.)    If so, what is the cost of shipping?

4.)    How long does it take to deliver my TV lift cabinet?

I must confess, while the information can be located on our site, it is not the easiest to find.  I have decided to share our Canadian Shipping Policy with you all here.

Yes, we do ship to Canada.  However, shipping is not free.  If you live within 50 miles of these cities listed below you will be charged $499 extra during check out for TV lift cabinets and $250 for the lift machines.

Within 50 miles of these cities:

  • Calgary

  • Vancouver

  • Toronto

  • Ottawa

  • Montreal

  • Edmonton

Additional charges will be applied if you live beyond 50 miles of these major cities. GST, duty and brokerage fees are all included in your purchase price for all orders shipped to Canada. All paperwork is handled by ImportAdvantage, and the GST will be remitted on your behalf to the Canadian government.  The average Canadian delivery time takes between 10-14 business days.  The increase in transit time is due to customs clearance and the additional distance for our warehouse to your home.

Have you been mobbed? - Watch new Fox network show

Have you ever been in a train station minding your own business when out of nowhere music starts playing?  A few people begin to dance.  Suddenly, hundreds of people start breaking out into choreographed dance.  Then just as quickly the song ends and everyone scatters as if nothing has happened.  Well, if this has happened to you, you have been officially mobbed.  For the folks who have not had the pleasure of seeing this live, raise your TV lift cabinet, turn on the TV and change the channel to the Fox network.

The Fox network just aired last Thursday, its special episode hosted by Howie Mandel called "Mobbed" featuring a surprise engagement.  In the episode, a man proposes to his girlfriend with the help of a flash mob.  According to the Los Angeles Times, the special drew in 10.8 million viewers.  The special performed so well that Fox decided to order 8 more episodes of Mobbed.
